Hymenoplasty and Hymenotomy/Hymenectomy

Hymenoplasty or hymen restoration is an outpatient procedure to repair and reconstruct the hymen.  Hymenoplasty is also called hymenorrhaphy and hymen reconstruction surgery.  Women perform this procedure for cultural reasons and to restore their “virginity” ("virginity" restoration; revirgination) with a new or current partner.  After a hymenoplasty, the hymen will tear during sexual intercourse.

Women with a partially intact, thick or rigid hymen can have difficulty and painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia).  Hymenotomy and hymenectomy are outpatient surgical procedures to open or remove the hymen, respectively, for conditions such as imperforate and septate hymens.

Dr. Jeffrey Palmer tailors the hymenoplasty and hymenotomy based on the specific needs of each individual woman.  He discusses the individual goals with each patient and then presents the different options. Dr. Palmer considers both the cosmetic appearance and sexual goals of each individual woman.
